Pre-Purchase Exams
Before You Buy
A pre-purchase examination assesses a horse’s health and soundness before you buy, so you can make an informed decision. It includes a full physical and soundness examination, with further diagnostics such as blood work or imaging as the case requires.
Your veterinarian performs the examination on your behalf as the buyer and discusses the findings with you, including any issues that may affect the horse’s suitability for your plans. To schedule a pre-purchase exam, please contact our office. The buyer’s exam request and the seller’s history and information release below are required for these appointments.
Semen Services
Storage, Import and Export
Horizon Equine operates a CFIA-certified equine semen storage, import and export facility at our clinic. We store and ship equine semen for clients in Canada and the United States.
Our clinic is within an hour of Vancouver International Airport, so semen can be shipped reliably to and from our clinic. We coordinate storage and international shipping in one place, including larger quantities of semen, and explain what is required for import and export. With storage, shipping and breeding services under one roof, there is no need to deal with several different providers.
Semen is kept in liquid nitrogen tanks in a dedicated, self-contained tank room, and every tank is checked daily, so your stored semen is protected for years to come. Each tank holds up to 99,000 straws.
Our Care Coordinator can help you with the documents needed for import and export, and answer any questions along the way.
Give us a call to discuss storing, importing or exporting semen.
